Job Overview


Works as a productive team member by accurately and efficiently performing the mortgage loan origination duties necessary to assure the accuracy and completion of a mortgage loan file for purpose of obtaining a loan decision based on the information obtained and for the purpose of continuity of loan origination business.


Originate, review, and analyze applications and credit documents within loan policies and guidelines as established by secondary market government sponsored entities, Credit Union management and the Board of Directors.

Lending authority based on their performance and overall knowledge of the mortgage products and the responsibilities listed in this policy (Refer to Policy 2 – Loan Policies).

Ensure loan documents, lending policies and practices conform to the loan policies and external regulatory and statutory compliance requirements.

Interview and counsel loan applicants.

Describe real estate loan products and assist applicants with completion of the loan application.

Discuss key aspects of financing such as rates, terms and payment amounts.

Interpret credit bureau reports, title policies, appraisals, etc.

Provide information on various insurance programs.

Provide member(s) with all required disclosures and documents for signature.

Assist management in training new loan officers and other personnel, as needed.

Assist in the implementation of new loan products and services in accordance with management direction.

Cross-sells other lending products and Credit Union services

Follow all Credit Union policies, procedures and regulations.

Represent the Credit Union in a professional manner (including but not limited to appearance, behavior and performance).

Maintain regular and predictable attendance.

Work cooperatively with others.

All other duties as assigned.

Able to routinely stand, sit; occasionally bend, stoop, and crawl; and rarely push/pull, lift or carry loads up to 15 pounds, drive as required to accomplish assignments.

Movements frequently and regularly require using back, legs, wrists, hands, and/or fingers.

Average, ordinary, visual acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents or products, or operate machinery.

Ability to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information.  The noise level in the work environment will vary based on location.

Work is typically done in the office at the company’s principal place of business or branches.

Maintain access to reliable transportation.

May be required to travel to various work locations, both local and surrounding counties.

Responsibilities may require off site attendance at seminars or meetings with consultants, professional or community groups.



High School diploma or equivalent. 

Associates or Bachelors Degree preferred or an equivalent combination of education and previous experience. 

Must be eligible for or registered/licensed with the National Mortgage Licensing System (as required by the Tennessee Department of Financial Institutions). 

Any other equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to perform the duties of this position. 


Knowledge and understanding of the guidelines set forth by Credit Union management and secondary market government supervised enterprises including Federal National Mortgage Association, Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation, Federal Housing Administration, United States Department of Agriculture Rural Development, Veterans Affairs, along with National Credit Union Association and all other available mortgage products and guidelines.  Knowledge, skills and ability to comply and execute the position requirements in a satisfactory manner under the requirements of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau for the purpose of origination, compliance and all other real estate lending regulatory requirements. 

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:                     

Minimum one year experience in mortgage loan origination or four years’ experience in mortgage loan processing.  Knowledge and proficiency of software programs such as Desktop Underwriter, online point of sale and loan origination systems.
