These positions are located in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, in the Trails Branch.
These are entry level positions and the starting wage is $15.24 an hour and there are many positions to fill.
Looking for motivated applicants that enjoy working outdoors in a team environment. Formal and on-the-job training will be provided to help employees meet the demands of the position. No previous experience is required.
These positions are Full-Time temporary positions not-to-exceed 1039 regular hours (about 6 months) in a service year. Positions may be terminated sooner or extended depending on management needs.
The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period for Great Smoky Mountains National Park is April through October.
Duties:
Performs all aspects of trail maintenance and construction as assigned by the trails maintenance supervisor or work leader. Examples of work performed include clearing fallen trees with chainsaws, clearing brush, benching/widening tread, removing roots/rocks from tread surface, as well as assist in construction of trail structures such as bridges, turnpikes, retaining walls, and steps. Uses and maintains a variety of hand tools and power tools such as shovels, picks, pulaskis, chainsaws, and string trimmers to accomplish trail maintenance and construction tasks. Routinely hikes 8 to 10 miles a day and up to 15 miles a day to perform trail maintenance tasks. Must be able to lift and carry loads up to 50 lbs.
